Dam Removal

DuBois & King provides investigation, analysis, planning, design, and construction phase services to dam owners and conservation groups. We have developed a common-sense approach that provides cost-effective solutions for removing dams and restoring organism passage and sediment transfer along natural channels. D&K’s dam and water resource engineers are supported by our surveyors, wetland scientists, geomorphologists, and permitting specialists who guide removal projects from study phase through to design, permitting, and construction.

Our dam removal teams evaluate sites and employ natural elements, such as native stones and plants to restore riparian zones and install log jams, rock vanes, step pools, revetments, and other elements within channels. If specifically required, we will also employ traditional practices, such as stone armoring, rock weirs, and step pools to restore the channel. Using online and hands-on techniques, our teams address questions and concerns regarding the environmental, climate, economic, and cultural implications of removing these structures.
