Statewide, Vermont
DuBois & King was selected to provide multidiscipline airport engineering services for Vermont State Airports. Assignments include:
Runway 01 Safety Area Improvement Project, Rutland – Southern Vermont Regional Airport, North Clarendon. Design of a new 50-ft-wide taxiway parallel to the existing 5,003-ft by 100-ft-wide runway to serve as a staging and taxi area. The project included construction of a 600-ft-long RSA at the north end of the runway, which uses an Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS) to safely arrest overrunning aircraft. In place of a gravel or sand medium, the EMAS uses crushable concrete blocks installed on top of pavement at the end of the runway. Project included a 55-ft-high retaining wall and relocation of the localizer. Design also included the connection of Taxiway D to the end of the runway, permitting assistance for stormwater, construction stormwater, and Act 250.
Runway 19 Safety Area (RSA) Improvement Project, Rutland – Southern Vermont Regional Airport, North Clarendon. Construction administration and inspection services for the construction of a 600 ft by 400 ft Runway Safety Area on the end of Runway 19.
Apron Design, Newport State Airport, Newport. Design of an aircraft tie-down apron approximately 12,500 square yards and 25-ft taxilane, approximately 200 lf in length. Edge reflectors were utilized along taxilane and around perimeter of apron. D&K prepared plans and obtained permits (stormwater discharge and Act 250) for taxiway, apron, and hangar additions.
Master Plan Updates, Newport State Airport, Newport. Partial update of Airport Master Plan to address FAA revisions to Advisory Circular 150/5300-13. Included updates to portions of existing Master Plan, Airport Layout Plan, critical aircraft information, dimensional information, environmental analysis for airport improvements, airport “Exhibit A” Property Map, and review of safety area requirements. Design for reconstruction/rehabilitation of Runway 18-36 included incorporating turnarounds at each end of the runway, an overlay of the stub taxiway and apron area, pavement analysis, analysis of the safety area at each runway end, and provision for temporary access/taxiway to Runway 5-23 from the apron and hangar area.
Independent Estimate, Master Plan Updates, Newport State Airport, Newport. D&K prepared an independent estimate for airport’s Master Plan as part of the Grant Application process. Provided cost estimate for: Aeronautical and Survey Mapping, Inventory, Forecasts, Environmental Overview, Demand/Capacity and Facility Requirements, Alternative Analysis, Airport Layout Plan and Capital Plan, and Study Documentation.
Plans and Underdrain Studies, MSGP and SWPPP Assistance, 9 State Airports. D&K provided services and plans for an underdrain study for 9 State airports. The scope of work involved on-site reconnaissance and review of existing plans and mapping documents to determine the function and capabilities of surface and subsurface drainage systems for each of the State airports. The completed drainage plans for each airport included the use of ArcGIS software to create site plans showing drainage features and stormwater discharge locations. Services also included assistance for development of a Stormwater Pollution Protection Plan (SWPPP) for these airports for VTrans to submit to the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources.
