NHDOT NH 155 Planning and Design

Madbury, New Hampshire

Design services for reconstruction of approximately 2,500 ft of the structurally deficient NH Route 155 (Knox Marsh Road) roadway across a main line bridge over the Boston & Maine Railroad in Madbury. The project involved approximately 0.7 miles of NH 155, the relocation of one-quarter-mile of Pudding Hill Road, and the rehabilitation of portions of Pudding Hill Road.

Services included improvement study, conceptual alternatives, preliminary engineering and data collection, design, site review, construction traffic/access maintenance plan, construction phasing, cost estimates, and final design of all roadway work. Work involved preparation of preliminary, right-of-way, slope and drain, and traffic control plans; erosion control measures; relocation of a 24-inch water main; and removal of an existing and construction of a new bridge over the Boston & Maine Railroad.

Design issues included clearance over the railroad track, the close proximity of Pudding Hill Road/NH 155 intersection, driveway access in close proximity to the bridge, a major drainage culvert at the bridge, impacts to cultural and historical resources, and maintenance of traffic during construction.
