Environmental Services, Cabot-Danville, US Route 2

Cabot and Danville, Vermont

DuBois & King provided planning, design, and permitting services to the Vermont Agency of Transportation in support of the Cabot-Danville US Route 2 reconstruction project. D&K’s role in the project consisted of wetland mitigation, stormwater management, and water resources engineering for the relocation of a stream channel.

The highway safety improvement project consisted of the reconstruction of three segments of US Route 2 totaling 4.25 miles. A 60-acre mitigation site was created in East Montpelier to compensate for impacts to wetlands and wildlife caused by roadway reconstruction. Stormwater management was achieved using site balancing and was designed to minimize right-of-way impacts. Services performed included:

Wildlife habitat assessment and mitigation
Design of 29 acre upland forest mitigation site
Operational/construction phase stormwater management plans
US Army Corps of Engineers 404 Permit
401 Water Quality Certification
Stormwater Discharge Permit (Individual Permit)
Construction Stormwater Permit
Conditional Use Determination
Vermont Act 250
Design of natural stream channel for relocation of impacted stream

The project received an Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies Vermont Section.
