Emergency Stabilization, Bethel Mt Rd

Rochester, Vermont | Town of Rochester

Heavy rainfall and substantial snowmelt from a storm event combined with insufficient drainage systems to wash out 2,800 LF of a vital roadway crossing a mountain. The steep and winding road serves approximately 1,400 vehicles per day and connects VT 100 and VT 12. The Town of Rochester applied for and received FHWA-ER funding to implement long-term repairs to the roadway and embankment, but the funding mechanism required the project be designed, permitted, and constructed within six months of the storm. D&K led the design of slope repairs, completely redesigned and expanded drainage systems, and observed roadway reconstruction. Working closely with the town, subconsultant partners, regulators, and the contractor, D&K advanced the project to its successful completion in under six months.
