Stonewood and Boudreau Farm Bridges

Orwell and Irasburg, Vermont | USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service

As part of a JV team, D&K provided engineering services for the replacement of two farm bridges. The project involved Phase I, a preliminary design and cost estimate phase; Phase II, a final design and design documentation phase; and Phase III, construction phase services. The Boudreau bridge design is for a 35-ft by 15-ft-wide H-20 structure including guard rails. The Stonewood bridge design is for a 28-ft by 15-ft-wide H-20 structure, including guardrails. The designs included streambank riprap protection to minimize erosion. For each bridge, the project team performed cost analyses to compare precast versus cast-in-place structures and prepared a list of required permits to be obtained by the landowner. D&K designed the bridges in accordance with Vermont Construction Practice Standard 578 – Stream Crossing.
