Middlebury Headwall Stabilization

Middlebury, Vermont | Private client

To address conditions posed by structural concrete sections nearing the end of their service life, the owner needed to rehabilitate the intake structure at the lower Middlebury hydroelectric project. The D&K team designed improvements, including a new reinforced concrete headwall structure to utilize portions of the existing headwall while allowing for equipment clearance requirements. D&K also designed concrete surfacing of specific elements within the intake flume. Services included field survey prior to design of improvements and construction contract administration.

Project Elements

• Adaptive reuse of existing intake structure to minimize cost and construction requirements.
• The design accommodated equipment clearances that required the headwall to occupy different vertical planes at various locations.
