Five Corners Design Implementation Plan

Essex Junction, Vermont | Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission

In the city’s core, the Five Corners intersection connects two local streets and three state highways; two adjacent railroad crossings add to its complexity. The intersection presents challenges throughout the day. The Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) and the City of Essex Junction sought an implementation plan for the highly successful “Design Five Corners” project. D&K worked with the CCRPC and the Village to develop a conceptual plan for improved multimodal safety and traffic circulation. D&K’s plan explored conversion to a four-way intersection, traffic flow improvements, and a reduction of pedestrian crossing distances and exposure to traffic.
