Correctional Facility Efficiency Upgrades

Northern State Correctional Facility, Vermont | VT Department of Buildings and General Services

D&K designed seven energy efficiency measures to lower operating costs in six of the Northern State Correctional Facility’s eight buildings totalling 156,000 SF. These measures included:

  • Renovating variable air volume (VAV) heating/cooling systems and replacing the air handling units (AHU) fan motors serving these VAV systems.
  • Adding a supply air temperature reset sequence to the VAV system AHUs.
  • Converting the secondary heating hot water loops from constant flow to variable flow with premium efficiency pump motors and variable-speed drives.
  • Adding control elements to introduce a dual temperature comparison sequence for 23 AHUs.
  • Adding control elements to introduce demand control ventilation sequences for three AHUs.
  • Adding variable air flow capacity for the largest AHU.
  • Upgrading laundry equipment.
