Bunker Silos & Leachate Collection

Amenia, New York | USDA NRCS and Coon Brothers Farm

Previously, the farm leachate collection system for the haylage bunker silos drained over a paved area to a storage tank during low flows and overflowed through a bar screen to a municipal catch basin on a roadway during high flows. The project replaced the bunker silos with a roofed bunker silo area, and installed a new leachate collection system. Our team evaluated existing conditions and designed a pair of bunker silos, new leachate collection system, and new leachate storage tanks, including transfer pumps and level controls. We designed a discharge pipe with an interconnection to the existing reception pit piping. D&K also worked with NRCS and the farmer to value engineer the project to reduce total costs.
