Professional Development

D&K has a bedrock culture of encouraging employees to work in areas of their professional passions. We seek to provide professional development opportunities where professional passions and job responsibilities intersect and imagination is the limit.

Deeply committed to our employees’ professional development, we provide opportunities to work on integrated multidisciplinary projects that strengthen outcomes through increased collaboration and innovation. Our team members have opportunities to grow through work that crosses disciplines, enhancing knowledge transfer and collaboration.

We prioritize frequent formal and informal feedback and mentorship as core practices that support employee growth and performance. By providing timely, constructive guidance, we empower our people to apply feedback immediately, continually strengthen their skills, and contribute to a productive, efficient, and positive workplace culture.

To support internal employee advancement and engagement, D&K provides individualized professional development plans. These plans support employees’ career trajectories, goal setting, and the enhancement of skills. Team members work together to identify learning opportunities to help bridge the gaps between current skills and the skills required to reach professional goals. These opportunities may involve formal education, workshops, seminars, online courses, and/or on-the-job training.

D&K also actively seeks to support and recognize the accomplishments of young employees. Each year, we present young employees for regional professional awards, and our internal monthly employee recognition program identifies and celebrates young employees who excel in their positions.

While maintaining licenses is the responsibility of each professional, D&K is committed to supporting employees in meeting professional designation and license renewal requirements. We support memberships in a range of professional societies. Our staff regularly present at events and serve in the governance of these societies to exchange ideas, learn, support, and build rapport among members of the planning, engineering, scientific, landscape architecture, and surveying communities.
