Master Plan, Las Cruces International Airport

Las Cruces, New Mexico | City of Las Cruces

The Las Cruces International Airport (LRU) required a Master Plan to tie the airport’s use to the Las Cruces Innovation and Industrial Park and Spaceport America. In developing the Plan, D&K held multiple meetings with airport users, local businesses, and commercial space operators. LRU’s needs included the addition of a hotel, special-use space launch areas, and commercial airport service. The master plan recommended implementing intra-state air service and, through this effort, the airport now has round-trip flights to Albuquerque with a vision of interstate service to Dallas. In developing the Airport Master Plan, D&K incorporated city and regional plans for commercial passenger air service and further development of aerospace facilities for research and development through partnerships with private and commercial stakeholders. The Master Plan paved the way for the preparation of a comprehensive CIP that includes updated airfield design standards, increased hangar space, and terminal development. Spaceport America contributed to the plan by summarizing the facilities needed to support its R&D staff.
