GMC Emergency Power Upgrades

Randolph, Vermont | Gifford Medical Center

Gifford’s Medical Center’s (GMC) emergency power system required an evaluation and a number of facility upgrades. D&K’s multidisciplinary team provided MEP and structural design for a pad-mounted transformer, service entrance, generator, service entrance power distribution, transfer switches, dry-type transformer, and related feeder work. Mechanical upgrades included a roof-mounted air handler and associated piping design. Structural work included a new loading dock and masonry screen wall design and roof structure evaluation. D&K provided construction phase services.

GMC remained fully operational during construction, and project phasing was carefully managed to limit equipment downtime during the power switchover. Replacement equipment was installed concurrently with legacy equipment removal to allow for quicker switchovers. D&K held weekly construction meetings with facility staff and the contractor to seamlessly coordinate shutdowns.
