Main and Barre Street Scoping Study

Montpelier, Vermont | City of Montpelier

The City of Montpelier sought to improve ease of use, safety, and connectivity at a congested intersection and along reaches of two streets in the city’s urban core. Siboinebi Path, a dedicated multiuse trail that serves as part of the Cross Vermont Trail, crosses Main Street/US 2 Business/VT 12 at this location. D&K worked with the City of Montpelier and a steering committee to explore options for addressing walking and bicycling needs. The study, funded by the Vermont Agency of Transportation, included an evaluation of alternatives, an environmental impact review, and opinions of probable construction cost. Our team studied east-west and north-south bicycle circulation, changes to traffic control at key intersections, and street network connectivity enhancements to address project needs. Multimodal safety and efficient operations throughout the entire corridors were paramount concerns at the intersections and crossing along Main Street and Barre Street.
